Lunch at the Medina Café. Having spent the night in town, we stayed only a few blocks from the club’s meeting place. The weather was fall-brisk so we drove. We arrived earlier than members so we were able to learn about club happenings from their bulletin board and pictures around the meeting room.
Medina Lions are a close-knit bunch. Lion President Arlyn Schmidt took time before lunch for the dozen or so members to each tell an abbreviated life story so that Brenda and I could become better acquainted. I enjoyed that. Lunch was chicken and dumplings—a house specialty.
When I asked during my remarks if any members had been zone chairpersons in the past, more than half the hands went up. Lion Mabel Cowell is currently serving as Zone 3B Chair.
We think the club’s “Trunk or Treat” community service project is a cute idea and we hope they send a photo in to the ND Lion so we can see the fierce trunk Lion head. The club is also considering a future wheelchair basketball event.
I was honored to receive the Medina Lions Club pin.
